A FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL
Please Sign our online petition here & help save Whiston Brass .
Whiston Brass as been given a 500% increase in its weekly charge for using the Manorial Barn, members of the Parish Council are saying the Band is a commercial group and not the community group it has been for almost 150 years. Whiston Brass is a none competitive teaching Band, it is self funding. The Band play at charity concerts throughout the year earning money for worthy causes. If an increase is implemented it will mean the end to a large piece of the village history. We are proud of our heritage and will fight to keep our rightful place in the community of Whiston Village.Whiston Brass members will not be bullied or intimidated, please sign our petition and let the people who pay the the rates make such decisions not two or three councilors. We will be taking our fight to the streets of Whiston and to the media We are the only Brass Band of this type in Rotherham and have an Equal Opportunity Policy so we are proud to say we attract members from outside Whiston. This is being held against us by members of Whiston Parish Council.
Whiston Brass is the entitity and not the players
'Ties with a Mayor'
Cllr. Alan Jackson, while Lord Mayor of Rotherham, donated to the Senior Band a full set of ties with the town's coat of arms on them. The new maroon ties go well with the Band's jackets and will look good when we are playing both locally and abroad
Junior Band
The children who are taking part in the Band's own examinations are all doing well at the moment and the first successful candidates have been presented with their certificates. (see Junior Band
Spring 2009
(last second adjustments to our stage area)
April the 5th and our first concert in the Barn, with a good size audience we had a pleasant start to the season. The music was quite varied from The Light Cavalry overture to Ode to Joy, the Barn Brass Ensemble played to their normal high standard.
We are doing an extra concert this summer and are hoping to raise money for the charity Help for Heroes by supporting 'Phills Millions' tickets are on sale phone 01709 375800 for details.
A very successful concert was held for the injured troops, once again a hand full of true Brass Banders gave up their Sunday to decorate the stage and prepare for the evening concert.Without these people we would not have the brilliant concerts we have, so a big thank you to Bryan at 60 plus still climbs up and down the ladder like a teenager, Kath the mother of the Band arranging the back area for the refreshments and standing by for any problem sorting, Joe with such a big responsibility not only conducting but playing principal cornet and finding time to help Vaughn on the electrics, Joe Neal (Porno) always ready to give a hand, Stephan and Jodie father and daughter team, the band is privileged to have such dedicated family's Krysta a mother of young Billy but still turns up when needed,Matt Symonds although fairly new to the Band is already showing is dedication, and Jenny silently going about her business like a true member of our organisation. Thank you all you made a special concert even more special, oh and I've been known to turn up once or twice. JWJ.
The Concert
We played two of the four movements from Joe's new Symphony which went down well with the audience. Together with some classical some modern pieces
we had a well balanced program.
First time at Wath Gala
